Knoxville’s Market Square is studied on the principles of traffic and program. Many people walk through Market Square for a variety of reasons, although they are all mostly unconnected. This project aims to create a focal point for the residents of Market Square the Knoxville Community. This is achieved through the addition of a monument that fits into the program of Market Square.

A shop is raised above the main axis of the space and set on a series of rails that allow that structure to maneuver above the pedestrian walkways, exposing itself as a miracle piece. This form is accomplished by bridging the gap between general program and site-specific design through the analysis of structural stability, site conditions such as wind and sun, and pedestrian and cultural implications.
This project exemplifies a semester of studying form and how it can be physically manipulated and moved. Working through the scales of design I reached an inhabitable space that moves with a purpose related to not only its program but also its design. Key components of the new program are centered around a grocer that carries high-end products. This advanced program is accompanied by an advanced method to reach the space. Platforms are situated along rooftops of the market square that can extend and connect to the new grocer existing above Market Square.
